About Give A Chance Sierra Leone

    We Are a Family,
    Not Just a Charity

Founded by Sierra Leoneans, for Sierra Leonean children. Since 2010 we have turned personal tragedy into communal hope: one child, one meal, one classroom at a time.

    Who We Are

A Grassroots Movement Born From Lived Experience

Give A Chance is a development charity working with and for children in Sierra Leone, a beautiful West African nation that remains among the world's poorest, ranking 181 out of 189 on the UN Human Development Index.

We are not a large international NGO. We are a family-run foundation rooted in Bo City, led by Brima Kpakra and Esther Jenneh Sandy, who have personally fostered vulnerable children since 2010. Our work is intimate, accountable, and deeply personal.

    Our Compass

    Mission, Vision & Promise

Everything we do is guided by three unwavering commitments to the children of Sierra Leone.

    Our Vision

To see a society in Sierra Leone where all children are educated, do not go to bed hungry, and have their fundamental rights recognized, respected, and protected.

    Our Mission

To empower underprivileged and orphaned children with knowledge, confidence, safe shelter, nutritious meals, and support through adulthood, so they can become the transformational power in their country.

    Our Promise

Every donation directly supports children in our Bo City home: shelter, education, meals, and healthcare. No overhead skimming, no middlemen. Just real impact, dollar for dollar.

    What Drives Us

    Our Core Values

These principles shape every decision, every meal served, and every lesson taught at Give A Chance.

    Transparency

Every dollar is accounted for. We publish how funds are spent so donors see exactly where their generosity goes.

    Compassion

We treat every child as family. Love, patience, and dignity are at the center of everything we do.

    Empowerment

We do not just shelter, we educate. Knowledge is the most powerful tool a child can carry into adulthood.

    Community

We work hand-in-hand with Bo City families, schools, and leaders so impact ripples outward.

    Our Journey

A Decade of Giving Children a Chance

From a single family's act of love to a growing movement for Sierra Leone's youth.

    2010

    The Spark

Brima and Esther open their home to their first foster children, driven by Brima's own upbringing among 30 siblings, 21 adopted.

    2014

    Ebola Crisis Response

During the devastating Ebola outbreak, many children lost their parents. Give A Chance expanded to shelter newly orphaned youth in Bo City.

    2018

    Purpose-Built Home

Construction completed on a dedicated facility with separate, secure quarters for boys and girls, housing 15 children full-time.

    2020

    First University Graduate

Janet Jinna Sandy, who joined at age 14, graduates as a qualified nurse and begins serving at Bo City hospital, a milestone for the foundation.

    2024

    Growing the Family

With sponsors across the globe, Give A Chance continues expanding educational support, mentorship, and community outreach programs.

    Where We Work

Rooted in Bo City, Sierra Leone

Our purpose-built home is located at 23 Lucy Brewa Street, Simbo Town, in Bo City, the second-largest city in Sierra Leone and the heart of the Southern Province. Bo is a vibrant, resilient community, but many families still struggle with poverty, limited access to education, and the lasting effects of past crises.

"There is no better organization in Sierra Leone that supports children to reach their dreams. Sierra Leone's real change comes from educating these children so they can be the transformational power in their country."
